We have a no-nonsense, getting-things-done mentality, so if that’s you, please read on!  A Day in the Life of a Senior Data Engineer While we all focus on the customer at Hitachi Vantara, our team specifically focuses on and supremely enables the business user.
Without your expertise, valuable data sits idle and useless in a database, or even worse, Hard-to-find, immediately out-of-date Excel spreadsheets and emails.
You combine these sources into databases and handle large amounts of data loads in no time.
You like designing and building pipelines that lead to visual reports, KPI scorecards, and dashboards, connecting data sources, feeding data into web apps, ETL processing, and ultimately transforming data for Business Intelligence.
Data analysts, business users, Supply Chain professionals, executives, and software engineers are continuously praising you for your work.

What you will bring to the Team.
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Very comfortable working with a small team of engineers.
• Very comfortable writing clean and deciphering complex SQL, with working knowledge of JSON.
• Knowledge and comfortability of Ruby on Rails is a big plus! • You are comfortable with web-based application development for consumers of your data.
• You understand the never-ending balancing act of writing code cleanly and delivering on time and see the value in both.
• You understand the value, necessity, and differences between chasing absolute perfection and achieving “good enough” and can regularly spot this threshold.
• You are very comfortable with ETL and related methods, technologies, and love to think about and discuss it! • You are comfortable with systems design and the considerations involved when it relates to data architecture, and the consumers of your data.
• Willing to learn about our own Pentaho Data Integration platform.
• Very comfortable with translating sometimes murky business requirements into clear technical specifications and output.
• Comfortable in a highly dynamic international environment, working alongside a wide variety of disciplines and time zones.
• Easy to communicate with among our many different international colleagues.
• Superb English written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly and master diverse web technologies and techniques.
