In the last 5 years I worked in a research laboratory at BioISI, Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon, performing a PhD in Systems biology intitled Molecules for Health: cholesterol absorption and transporter proteins expression under the effect of bioactive molecules. 

In the last 5 years I have carried out aqueous extraction of bioactive molecules from an edible brown seaweed followed by purification of the extract by solid phase extraction and its characterization through RP-HPLC-DAD and LC/HRMS-MS. I also studied the effect of seaweed extract on different cell lines (HepG2 and Caco-2) and performed different techniques to achieve my work objectives, namely: SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, western blot, qRT-PCR and different enzymatic studies. I also started omics studies in the group where I worked, performing metabolic and proteomic studies to analyse the metabolites and proteins with altered expression when cells were exposed to seaweed extract.
