About the Role.
The Senior Manager, India Payroll will lead our India payroll function within Global Business Services (GBS).
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to spearhead INDIA Payroll Center of Excellence and be responsible for overseeing payroll operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency starting with India, and building scale & capability with the intent of expanding Payroll management services to other markets in APAC.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, deep expertise & experience of running Payroll operations, knowledge of statutes & regulations as applicable, and the ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Your Responsibilities Include.
Leadership.
Provide strategic direction and leadership to the India Payroll COE team, fostering a culture of customer centricity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Drive a culture of service excellence within the team; promote “Best in Class” customer service.
Payroll Operations Management.
Oversee end-to-end payroll system & processes for India  including payroll processing, tax compliance, deductions, reconciliations, query resolution, setting up SLA’s, streamlining processes, identifying & mitigating process gaps & potential risks, ensuring data accuracy in payroll inputs (particularly new hire onboarding)  ESPP, LTI (RSU, NQ) administration as applicable to payroll, strengthening maker-checker controls, governance, alignment with Total rewards & Human resources, & overall ensuring timely & error free payroll delivery.
Knowledge of and experience in Equity Reconciliation Processes and report basis ESPP, NQ and RSU inputs from the global equity team.
Creation of Payroll Break Up for CMS & Mid-Year Cycle Compensation Changes, with Maker & Checker in place.
Benefits Administration - Ensure smooth execution of Benefits Administration and education of employees on topics including Payroll and, Service Support and External Vendors related to payroll as well as benefits.
Administration of Benefits including PF, Gratuity, Leave Encashment, Flexible Benefits Plan (such as LTA, NPS, Meal Coupons, etc.), ESI, statutory bonuses, Insurance benefits, leave policies, Car Lease, Higher Education support, employee tax perquisites related to benefit participation, and miscellaneous employee benefits linked to payroll or compensation  Governance & Compliance.
Ensure payroll operations adhere to local regulations and statutory compliance requirements, staying abreast of changes in legislation and implementing necessary updates (ex.
the New Labour Code).
Posses expert knowledge of statutory compliances particularly w.
.
Provident Fund, Gratuity.
Payment of Bonus, Minimum Wages, Payment of Wages, Professional Tax, Income Tax, Labour Welfare Fund &  all statutory elements of compensation & Benefits administration.
Posses expert knowledge of the new Labor Code so as to be in a position to advise, plan & collaborate with stakeholders to implement the new Labor Code in due course Ensure that the organization complies with all statutory payroll related labour laws and regulations at various locations by leading all compliances.
Be the payroll expert and be able to work with product owners on design ideas including process flows, streamlining, defining SLAs, driving process improvements, establishing governance, audit preparedness, building payroll management capabilities including application of technology where feasible etc.
Streamlining the Payroll function by designing yearly calendar, keeping tracker of requirements, re-designing process flowcharts and RCMs including process maps.
Vendor Management.
Manage relationships with payroll service providers, Statutory compliance, and other vendors, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are in place and are duly adhered to in the delivery of payroll services & statutory compliances.
Review the performance of vendors periodically, assess the market for Solutions and suggest changes as required including but not limited to identifying new vendors.
Manage 3rd Party Payroll providers (including contractors) to ensure seamless, compliant, and high-quality Payroll.
Raising Contingent worker action form for third party vendor hires as per Master Service Agreement Process Improvement.
Identify & resolve process gaps & potential risks, identify opportunities for process optimization and automation, implementing best practices to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
Proactively identify and drive continuous improvements within assigned processes, work closely with cross functional teams to propose process improvements to eliminate errors, mitigate statutory risks, drive efficiency, build functional capability, align to global standards and increase productivity.
Reporting and Analytics.
Develop and maintain payroll metrics and reporting dashboards, providing insights to support decision-making and drive performance improvements.
Audits and Governance.
Lead payroll audits and payroll compliance reviews, ensuring accuracy and integrity of payroll data and processes.
Be audit ready at all times.
Third Party Vendor audit – Designing processes for Third-Party Vendor audits, conducting monthly payroll compliance checks, and executing quarterly payroll audits of third-party vendors.
Submitting reports to stakeholders upon completion.
Stakeholder Management.
Collaborate with Total Rewards, HR, Finance, Legal and Compliance, other cross-functional teams, Global and India & APAC leadership; address payroll-related inquiries, resolve issues, and support business objectives.
Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across Finance functions, the broader HR Experience & Insights Team and the HR Client Delivery team, to ensure open communications that supports an effective partnership across our HR community as well as employees and People Leaders.
Team development and management.
Provide guidance, coaching, and training to the  India Payroll COE team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
Ensure teams are aligned and relevant skills are in place to deliver on organizational strategy.
Develop and manage the ongoing advancement of the team (including strong development plans).
What we are looking for.
Qualifications.
Bachelor's/ master’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
10+ years of progressive experience in payroll management, with a minimum 5-7 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing India payroll operations.
In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and labour laws / statutory compliance requirements.
Exposure to payroll operations in other markets in APAC.
Experience with payroll systems (e.
., ADP, SAP, Workday) and HRMS such as Success Factors is mandatory.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to drive insights and decision-making.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Proven track record in payroll management, of driving process improvements, assessing & mitigating risks, leveraging technology, and implementing best practices.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
